I understand that the money in Cambodia isn't great, but I am very frugal (ok, a tightwad) and willing to forego boozing it up on a regular basis - would it be possible to pay off $200-300 every month?

From what folks are saying... it would be super tight if your mo income is at $1000 tops.

If accommodation is provided, sure.

If you need or want to pay off debt do NOT go to Cambodia.

the pay is low. About $9 us per hour.

And you do not want to know why your fellow "teachers" are working there.

It's the bottom of the barrel for teaching.

Go to Korea.

Agreed. You don't come to Cambodia for the money.

You can make double that per hour if you have the experience.

Really? I'm here because I like living here and the students are my favourite in Asia. Please don't tar us all with the same brush!

Go to Korea.

If you want a soulless experience

Which it never is in Cambodia.

Cambodia:

* No accommodation (ever)
* Hourly pay (usually), meaning no cash at holidays and term breaks
* Taxes introduced in the past 18 months, meaning 10% of salary is lost
* Inflation that has resulted in cost of living increasing 50% in past few years

No place to go to save money, but if you live like a monk, and get lucky getting hours, you might be able to get $200 a month in savings (some months).

The danger is that you will then run into a holiday, or lose a class or two for some reason, and you will blow all your savings. If you NEED savings, go somewhere else. If you HAVE savings, go to Cambodia.

Sigh, It differs. You can't say that a country is bad because some people don't like it. I personally HATE Peru, but there are those out there that Love it. I don't understand them, but that's their choice. For me, I happen to LOVE Korea.

Excellent point. One should probably make up one's own mind about a place. Good call.

Indeed. The OP just asked if he could earn a certain amount a month.

Others opinions of the place were non responsive.
