Hello everyone! Quick question: What can you tell me about working as an ESL teacher in Brisbane? Are there any jobs? Is it very competetive?

I've been living in Chile for a few years now and while being here I became an English teacher. In Chile, universities have 4-5 year courses or "English Teacher Training Programs"

Personally, I have a Bachelor of Education specializing in TESOL from completing the before mentioned course.

I don't have a CELTA, CertTESOL but the course outline is basically the same thing. I'm hoping to take the TKT though once i get to Australia at UQ.

Can anyone give me their opinions on my chances? Any suggestions? I'd really love to hear your feedback.

I'm Sydney, not Brissy. I'm sure someone will come along with more local info. Your qualifications will be fine. Perhaps the recent flooding in Bris might put off students for a while. Perhaps not. Do a search for ELICOS or English Australia to check out some private schools/Unis with English programs. Maybe you could register with the Dept of Edu.

Thank you! Yes! I'm currently working on my application to the QCT (Queensland College of Teachers)...I know that's the legal requirement to work in schools is that what you mean? Or is registration with the Dpt. of Edu another separate registration?

You're on the right track. I just didn't know what the organisation was called in Queensland. I'd be surprised if you didn't get a job somewhere.
