What would a newly qualified teacher expect to be paid?

Also, don't expect anything else (e.g. accommodation, insurance, paid vacations, etc.) Go to another country if you want to save money. You might start breaking even after a few months if you get enough classes in Cambo.

Is that in actual U. S. dollars or local currency?

US $. A newb will generally start at $10. There is a 10% tax so really you get $9 after taxes. Hours are not guaranteed, no vaca, no extras of any kind. There are two very good international schools: ACE being one of them and another which the name escapes me right now but if you have 2+ years experience, some connections, and are a solid teacher you can earn $15-20 at those schools.
