Dear Forum Members,
I have been invited by a private university setting in Romania to teach in the area of English and intercultural communication in their summer program.
I was asked to propose a lecture list, payment scale and other requirements.
I have taught in the US at the university level, and I am looking at this as an adjunct teaching assignment. From that perspective, I can determine my financial needs. However, I'd like to know from the members here, who have experience in Romania and Europe, how should I approach this in terms of "my requirements"? In other words, what is the potential pay scale there for teaching a college level type of course, and would a university cover accommodations for the duration (e.g. a dorm room) and travel cost (airplane ticket to and from). Are these reasonable "requirements" to ask for?
In terms of acadmic background, I have more than one postgraduate degree, and likely to have finished by doctorate by summer. In addition, I have more than 10 years experience of teaching as adjunct lecturer at the university level.
I look forward to your comments.
Sincerely,
Ken |

Hi,
I've never taught there, but am hoping to go this fall. I can tell you that the pay there is definetly no inspiring. Most college professors make a couple hundred USD a month.
However, it's pretty cheap to live there.
I doubt that they would cover the airfare, or the living expenses.
If you go to Romania, you should go for the experience, not the money. |

I've always wanted to go there. It's in my genes, my mother is from there. But, looks like I will have to wait. |

Now is the time to BUY a place in Romania. For US$10,000 you can get something nice.
Work in the Mideast for a year and you can buy your bolthole and retirement home.
The same applies south of the Danube in Bulgaria. |
