Hey all, I am interested in working in Iceland and Greenland and am wondering if anyone has experience with either of these countries?

I don't know anything about Greenland but I knew a couple of teachers who worked in Iceland in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, we've been out of touch for at least 5 years. Still, that shows there is some sort of opportunity there.

Currently, the economy there has gone up in volcano smoke and I seriously doubt that the job market's got room for even one additional English teacher. Really Sad

Yeah, I figured with the economy the last thing Iceland really intends to do is hire foreigners to teach English.

However, I found an exchange program with Haskoli Islands that allows you to tutor English whilst studying Icelandic (work study) ... not exactly the same thing but I may apply. And theres the whole having to pay for the course thins, so really, it wouldn't be a real job, more like being a student again.

As for Greenland, I don't even know where to look - I read a blog about someone who worked as an ESL teacher in Qanaaq but man, I have no idea where to begin to look - maybe I should try to get a hold of any schools I can find ...

As for Saudi, if only I had the experience .... Mexico here I come?

I just got back from Iceland.

About 99% of the country speaks English and speaks English fluently. Their accents are pretty much non-existent, and they are so fluent that it would almost be less of an asset to hire a native English speaker who does not know Icelandic. Their English teachers are bilingual, which makes them more hire-able than someone who does not know Icelandic at all.

Iceland, Greenland, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Norway, Sweden have no need of EFL "native speakers".
