Would love to work as an English language instructor at AUC, but will not begin graduate studies until September. I'm wondering if completing my Master's in TESOL at AUC would give me an edge over other applicants. Or, is AUC like so many other universities in the Middle East that seem to prefer instructors with North American or European credentials?

Actually no. They seem to have a policy of NOT hiring their graduates directly which may be because they can't hire all of them and don't want students assuming that doing the program guarantees them a job. What happens is that many of the graduates hit the Gulf for a few years and then come back and get hired.

The big catch if they hired you out of the program is that you would be local hire. Thus, salary only with none of the normal great benefits.

The fact is that the EFL teachers at AUC have many years of experience. They don't hire new MAs. (although the current political situation may have cause some difficulties in hiring and they have to lower their requirements... but that is likely temporary.)

Thanks, VS - just as I thought. I spent several years teaching in Egypt and am all too familiar with the local hire issue. Will likely go another route for completing my Master's and send an application AUC's way afterwards.
