I was wondering what foreign lecturers wear in the heat of Saudi. Do they teach in formal wear, or can they wear board shorts and thongs?

Dear aussie_teacher,
I always dressed in short-sleeved shirts and slacks - started off with regular shoes, but eventually ended up in sneakers (more comfortable). Very informal - but that was the IPA; can't say for sure it'd be the same everywhere else (at universities, for example).
Regards,
John
P.S. I'd not pack the thongs - hmm, do you mean "thongs" as on the feet (i.e. sandals) or these sort:

and "board shorts" (whatever they may be - must be "aussie terminology".)

Dear aussie_teacher,
Ah, in that case - there were a few who wore "foot thongs" at the IPA, but no shorts, board or otherwise,
Regards.
John

If you work for a private contractor, you will almost certainly be expected to wear a tie.

if you work for a government institution then slacks or chinos and open neck collared shirts are the norm in the warmer months.

Don't even dream of wearing shorts.

As a female teacher, you can get away with pretty much anything so long as it's for female eyes only, which makes a change from the restrictions of 'public' dress in the Kingdom.
