They don't really have an intensive English program as such. Different departments have English units under the auspices of the Language Centre. You might want to contact the Language Center directly or other units. Ads for positions are now in local Arabic newspapers as they are trying to recruit locally.

Since it is in the Arabic press, does that mean that they are only hiring Arabic/English bi-linguals... local hire?

Kuwait University has always paid lower than many other universities in the Gulf. Unless you have personal reasons for being interested in working in Kuwait, or already live there, you might try universities in other GCC countries first, particularly the UAE, or Qatar :: or Oman for a different kind of life.

Strange that they are advertising locally and in Arabic. In my day, ads for the college of medicine were all over the international press.

Well... the College of Medicine had a massive turnover problem for about 4 years running... losing more than 50% of the department every year. Also, as a "prestigious" department, it was native speakers only.

Kuwait university has not hired ESL teachers from overseas for about 3 years now. At the moment, they are only advertising locally, so it is likely that only people who are already here or who have friends/family here would know about it.

The idea might be to hire Kuwaitis, but as far as I know, Kuwaitis haven't been applying. Teachers from other universities in Kuwait, foreign-born spouses of Kuwaitis, and wives of foreigners in Kuwait have been hired in the last few years.

Someone interested could try writing directly to the college of Medicine, the college of Allied Health Sciences, the college of Engineering, or the college of Business. In all cases, the letter should be addressed to: College of XXXX (attention: ESL unit). But you probably would not have much luck unless you are already in the region. You need to have an MA from an approved university in an English-speaking country (no online degrees are accepted currently).

The pacakage is reasonable (from about 65,000 USD for someone with at least five years of experience to about 85,000 USD for someone with at least 15 years of experience), with about three and a half months of holiday a year (not including local holidays). But it would probably be a bit a work to get everything done if you are not here - Kuwaitis love red tape.

Kuwait University, including Allied Health, has not advertised internationally in two or three years. They probably will not until the new university is completed and then will need new teachers due to complete segregation of the sexes and campuses. It will be completed in 2015 if all works out. KU now is very competitive in salary although they do not pay for private tuition for faculty's children. They got a recent rise based on number of years taught and about every two years now will get a raise based on experience. If a person lives in the gulf and has a friend in Kuwait who knows when the ads come out, it would be possible to come for an interview and get hired.
