Could anybody give me any information at all about the Casaloldo branch of British Institutes?
They are offering 800 Euros a month (after tax), accommodation +paid utilities and use of car (some travelling required).
Many thanks! |

I looked up the town for you. It has a population of just over 2600, so I'd say you'd be travelling a lot to other places in order to get your teaching hours. (Does the ad say how much teaching would be required?)
Mind you, in the nearby towns there are 4 secondary schools - 2 scientific schools, 1 technical school, and 1 commercial school (Italian secondary schools are all "specialist" in something). Maybe you'd be doing "lettorato" - i.e. helping kids to develop speaking skills in the mornings. (For which the schools might be paying their provider around 30 an hour and up.)
If the school is paying accommodation and utilities (and find out what sort of accommodation!) then 800 net per month isn't too bad. You can easily feed yourself on that - and have some left over for travelling around at weekends etc. Do note, though, that Italian schools (if you were working as a lettorato in one) have lessons from Monday morning through to Saturday morning - i.e. you might be teaching 6 days a week. On the plus side, Italian state schools don't operate in the afternoons, unless you've got remedial lessons or Cambridge exam prep. So that might leave you free for other lessons - either back at the school, or farmed out to companies nearby for corporate training. Can you ask to see a sample timetable?
As with everything, check the details of the contract. Are they paying tax and INPS (social security covering health and pension); or will you need to pay part of this? What accommodation / utilities / other costs are they paying for? I'm assuming petrol and car maintenance, but do check. What other help do they provide in settling in - i.e. getting codice fiscale, residency status. |
