Well, it's about $4500. Not bad considering some of the salaries quoted for some of the KSA jobs. Given those two choices, I'd rather be in Bahrain.
I gather you're looking at the Serco training ad. I'm still waiting for someone to share some insights on them.

Have you worked in Saudi Arabia? For a westerner I think it's better than KSA. Why?
--You don't need a visa to exit the country
--People can visit you, i.e. they have a tourism industry (such as it is)
--They have booze
--They have pork
--They have cinemas
--They have an international airport that is head-over-heels better than all the Saudi airports put together
--A lot of airlines serve BAH
--They have a nice public golf course
--They have a plethora of "social networking" (if you catch my drift)

A pint of Guinness in Diggers costs 2.6BD (last time I was there - may have increased due to revolutionary taxes). So 1,700 BD will buy you 653 pints plus an oj for the lady. |

For what type of teaching position? K-12/international schools? Adults in university? |

If you could get (salary + housing) 1200BD, you'd be ok for a single person living alone. This would be a minimum though if you want to save money each month and still have a bit of fun. Though Bahrain is small, a car is also necessary. Figure 400BD/mo rent for a decent 1 bed flat. |

It is more expensive than KSA. Bahrainis often travel over to Khobar and Dammam for shopping. It is also full of SIN and TEMPTATION and as a result saving is more difficult. |

I understand from colleagues of mine that TEFL salaries in Bahrain are comparable to that of China...and that there are a lot of Indians and Sri Lankan non-native English teachers teaching there. |
