Conspiracy theorists believe that the European Union plan on breaking up this particular union anyway. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland become 'independent' - though in reality little more than provinces of Europe - and us poor Englanders are to see our country divided up into nine separate autonomous regions and for England to be no more.
Pray God this wickedness is but conspiracy... Or in darkness we shall always dwell...
Oh, to be in England
Now that April 's there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In Englandnow!
And after April, when May follows,
And the whitethroat builds, and all the swallows!
Hark, where my blossom'd pear-tree in the hedge
Leans to the field and scatters on the clover
Blossoms and dewdropsat the bent spray's edge
That 's the wise thrush; he sings each song twice over,
Lest you should think he never could recapture
The first fine careless rapture!
And though the fields look rough with hoary dew,
All will be gay when noontide wakes anew
The buttercups, the little children's dower
Far brighter than this gaudy melon-flower!

"Oh, to be in England . . ."
Well, "Oh, to be in the United Kingdom" simply wouldn't scan as well, would it?
Regards,

We are on our way. Referendum will probably be in 2014. Then we can bid adieu to the stinking cadaver of British Imperialism. |

I am surorised that the gallant Flight Officer MacBeath has not stepped in to defend the Realm against dangerous dissidents and bolsheviks. |

The benefit to Scotland staying in the union far outweighs the negatives. |
Are you going to provide some evidence to support this?
I personally think Scotland would be better off without England. The North Sea sits in Scottish waters which is where all the oil lies. The 30bn or rather 1600 extra per person than English people wouldn't need to be diverted through westminster because it would go straight to edinburgh.
Also, the statistics that suggest Scots want to be a part of England are perhaps well - unbelievable. Especially as the SNP's main policy was devolution and they got the most votes. Could it really be that the voters were making a protest vote against labour and lib dem (Scots never vote tory)?
If Scotland could go it on its own I think we would see a country moving in a direction similar to Finland. It shares a similar population size and many other things (including a similar desire to drink a lot of alcohol).
Also, the politicians in Westminster play a global game, they mingle at the G8 etc. People in Britain suffer - especially those in the lower income bracket. If Scotland were to be on its own, the politicians would only be pandering to its own people not anyone else! |

Who was it who said that the main benefit will be that Scotland will take her rightful place at the United Nations between Saudi Arabia and Senegal?
Not an SNP member I'd hazard... |

If it makes Italy an offer it can't refuse, then yes. |
