Hi there , can you please advise me about EFL job prospects and pay in Singapore.

I have;

TESOL Cert,
TESOL Diploma,
HND Business Studies,
first degree (Open University UK),
masters degree (MA Education),
PGCE (post compulsory) = equivalent of PGDE.

Im a director of studies of an EFL Dept. at a UK College of FE and facing possible redundancy. Ive been teaching for 17 years.

Given my situation, what kind of jobs and salary might I expect Thanks very much for your help.

Hastings. Now, as you know, the celebrated master of darkness Alistair Crowley put a curse on the dwellers of Hastings to be doomed to dwell there for all eternity, or even worse...in Ore.

Yes, you should be able to pick up work in Singapore.

Salary of SGD4000 plus.

Schools rarely pay airfares, flats etc. You'll need to set yourself up with a flat. This will cost a significant chunk of change. Singapore rental property is very expensive (more than the UK).

You'll need to be in country to source jobs. Jobs are rarely advertised outside Singapore. There is a vast pool of teachers and bored expat housewives here to fill the needs of most schools.

Singapore is a very nice place to live.

As far as I remember the monthly salary is "before" tax. The tax rate is quite heavy for the first year (?) and then it drops down.

Check it out if you can at the Singapore taxation office on line as they would surely have such data on line.

However, any money given for housing is not, at the best of my memory, taxed.

K.

Tax is very high if you work for less than 180 days in the first tax year, therefore make sure you are in the country for more than 180 days and you'll be fine.

Tax is generally very low.

Tax is payable annually, and you'll need to file for it yourself. Therefore the monthly SGD4000 I gave is before tax.
