I'm considering relocating from the US to Costa Rica. I've already started the job search and have come up with a couple of opportunities that would allow me to earn $1000+ per month. One is in San Jose and one is in Playa Samara. From what I can gather, that's not a bad income for Costa Rica, but it also seems like expenses can be quite high in relation to wages.
I was hoping to get a little more information about cost of living in those two cities. How much can I expect to pay in rent? Food? Transportation? Going out occasionally? What are the odds that I might be able to save a little? Are there opportunities to pick up a little extra income on the side - private tutoring, writing, editing, etc.?
Obviously, money isn't my main priority or I wouldn't be looking in Costa Rica, but it is a consideration. I'm not terribly high maintenance and don't need to live in the lap of luxury or anything like that and I have no problem with budgeting, but I would like to be comfortable and not have to feel like I'm scraping by.
Thanks in advance for any help! |
