Hello, My name is Marcin and I was born in Gdansk Poland and now live in the US. I am 32 years old college educated and have owned my own company for 8 years now. I am looking into teaching English in Gdansk.
How difficult is it to get a job? Is there summer schools? Do I have an advantage if I have a Polish passport EU? Is there any advantage in doing business here in the states and having a prelaw degree? How much does a typical English teacher make in Gdansk? Thank you in advance, Marcin Grabowski

Hello Marcin,

Do you have any qualifications for teaching English? Most reputable schools require a tefl certificate. The Cambridge CELTA (a one month course) is basically the gold standard here.

Your business experience will definitelycome in handy when you teach business people. But don't expect to earn a king's ransom for teaching Eng in Poland!

When I was teaching Eng in Gdansk a few years ago, I made 3,000-3,500 zloty/month. This was working full time for a well-known school, Mon-Sat. I doubt salaries have increased much.

Your biggest expense will be rent. If you want to live in the center, you will spend well over 1000 zloty/month for a small studio apartment.

An EU passport means you won't have go through the big hassle of getting a visa and work permit.
