Hi all,
There are a lot of uni and intl school options there in Erbil. I lived there for two months and was minimally amused. A night out can cost you quite a bit, taxis gauge you more than any other Kstan city, and it's boring is Hades until you find a group to hangout with. So.... I seriously recommend Suleimania as an alternative. There are plenty of schools in Suleimania, and people in the area are more charming than Erbil as well.

I've got a telephone/Skype interview with SABIS ISC Erbil next week. I'm rather astonished that they bothered to reply, considering that they have a preference for people with a masters degree and several years of experience, as is the case with most of the Middle East.
I only have a bachelors and I'm fresh off my CELTA. How suspicious! Makes me think they didn't even look at my CV! Bit desperate, isn't it? No doubt I'll be flushed out during the interview, but I feel like it'll be a waste of their time. Can't blame a soul for trying, eh.

Naaa... they've never required an MA and are often desperate enough to take teachers who have just finished their BA and need that first job.
A search of this board and a google will get lots of stuff on them... very little positive.

the pAY us low for the M.E. but having spent time in N. Iraq the people and atmosphere are def. better and more relaxed.
Are they paying airfare summer? I'd received a form a year ago but never sent it in as it wanted questions answered with dates starting at gradeschool. My papers don't go back that far! |

Haha. In a moment of surreal hilarity, they just phoned me asking me if I could fly out this weekend. I said no. They asked me if I wanted to train local teachers instead. "But I just got my CELTA!" I spluttered. A confused silence.
The whole setup is insane. They sound desperate indeed. Not touching them with a bargepole. |
