Let me see. You e-mailed them yesterday. And today you plan to phone them to see if they got your application and are working on it ?
I think that at best this would be a breach of etiquette. It also displays that you do not yet fully understand that time has a different meaning in the KSA. "Bukara inshallah",
pm johnslat and ask for his advice. And do not hurry. When the LORD made time he made a lot of it. |

The person who is currently dealing with IPA recruitment of English Instructors is ( this post edited by Paladin, and a PM has been sent to Gnome, explaining the reasons for doing so).
The hiring process now includes a videoconference, which you will have to arrange. You could have attended the TESOL Conference earlier this year, and been interviewed in person, but it is too late for that now.
I wonder how many new recruits the IPA got at the TESOL Conference. Does anyone know? |

What do you want to know, exactly?
How many people were interviewed?
How many people were hired?
How many were shot or taken prisoner?

I cannot imagine that Gnome is gaining many friends in the administration of IPA by divulging contact information on their recruiters.
I am also somwhat puzzled as to why he would want to do this.
My guess is that the recruiter will now be swamped with crank mail and change his e-mail address. |

I didn't realize that "devulging" the name of the recruiter at the IPA was a breach of etiquette. I thought I was doing potential employees and the IPA a favour. Isn't this board supposed to be a medium for sharing such information? Afterall, it is called "The Job Discussion Board."
Why are you giving me flack for trying to help a fellow EFL instructor? Over the years, I have obtained a lot of valuable information from the posters on this board, including Scott (with 2 T's). Did I misunderstand the purpose of this board? Is this really just a personal chat-room for the usual 12 or so posters? |

Well people do things differently in the Middle East. Your posting of the recruiter's name will earn you no brownie points with IPA.
Maybe you don't care. What is more important to you - getting a job or impresing us with how much you know ? |

Mr Gnome,
Well, as a card carrying and proud member of the 'dirty dozen' of the Middle East board, I must say that I too think it was bad form for you to post an email address on a public board.
IMHO, it is just common courtesy to never post anyone's email address into the public domain without their permission. You may have noted that Bindair had already offered to PM him with information. If someone doesn't feel comfortable with posting a name, it may be a hint that an email address should have followed the same route.
As you seem to know Scot, you are aware that he doesn't sugarcoat his comments. Useful information is always welcome.
VS
(and I do think that each member of this board gets to decide the spelling of his or her screen name) |

Dear Gnome,
I wouldn't think there is any problem in letting people know his contact details but when you post an email address on a web site it is picked up by spam bots, which trawl the web harvesting email addresses. So by posting the email address here, you are letting the guy in for a load of Nigerian 419 spam, as well as a never ending supply of Viagra and fake degrees.
It's also against the forum rules. Dave gets money from the ads. You post the recruiters email here and he doesn't get the money. |

Stephen,
Thank you for gently pointing out the error of my ways. I temporarily forgot that people scan the web just to mine email addresses and then forward spam. I will be more careful next time. |
