I'm halfway through a full time Masters in Education (ELT) at Manchester University, UK after having taught EFL and ESOL for 4 years (in Japan, Spain and the UK) and I'm starting to look for jobs from September onwards. I get the impression the British Council are good to work for (in terms of conditions and career development), but the vacancies are in places I've never previously considered going, such as Senegal. Has anyone worked in Senegal, or for the British Council in any African countries? Would my experience prepare me for such teaching situations? A couple of my lecturers have worked in African countries and it has inspired me! I speak pretty good French but would be happy to learn other local languages, or try to at least.

I know this is all a bit vague - sorry - I've only just joined up.

Cheers,
Sianage

Don't know about senegal, but I have spoken to a few teachers at BC in Casablanca, Morocco and they seemed fairly happy about their gig.
The school enjoys a pretty good rep as far as I know.

OK, so i know nothing about, and nobody in, africa, but i have known a few people who have worked for bc's in central and eastern europe and central asia. from what they've said, they all seem to be well run and consistent...good reps as schools, though you as a teacher are usually put through your paces to earn your keep (very regular observations and feedback) - but is that a bad thing?!
