Around the time when many international news agencies were covering the attack on the British Embassy in Iran, and its aftermath,
in detail, another diplomatic spat was underway in Doha...

http://en.ria.ru/russia/20111205/169361690.html

This development attained more coverage in the Russian media
than in other countries. Al Jazeera - http://www.aljazeera.com/ -
barely touched on it.

Could these 2 developments be related, do you think?

I can't see any possible relationship between the Russia/Doha/Syria issue and the Britain/Iran spat...

Also more coverage in Russia than the Middle East makes sense...

The relationship between Russia and the Middle East could be Chechnya.

My veiled sentiments...

...which wouldn't be relevant to either of the situations that I referred to...

The Russian Ambassador and two diplomat colleagues were actually beaten up by customs officials at Doha airport when they tried to prevent security officials from x-raying the diplomatic pouch. This would have been a direct violation of 1961 Vienna Convention and a bilateral agreement between Russia and Qatar.

One can only presume that this was most likely provoked by Russia's position on the Syrian crisis. Russia opposes any arms embargo on Syria, which many Qataris believe advocates the Syrian government of Bashar Al-Assad.

I cannot really see any link with the British/Iran situation........

It would take a major stretch to see one... and it would still be imaginary. Laughing
