Hi guys,

I'm looking for an MA TESOL course in Canada, but so far haven't had any luck with my search. Does anyone know of any courses?

Many thanks

Are you looking for a distance MA TESOL or in-person?

FYI Most Canadian universities offer an MA in Applied Linguistics (TESL) rather than as an "MA in TESOL" - there are plenty of programs in Canada but you may just be typing in the wrong search word.

Off the top of my head,
MA TESOL from Trinity Western University (Langley, B.C.)
MA Applied Linguistics from Concordia (Montreal, QC)

^Those are the ones I am familiar with. I believe most schools have an MA in Applied Linguistics that are geared towards TESL. You may wish to contact "TESL Canada" specifically as they should have a complete list. Good luck!

There are a few listed on the TESL Canada site, as well as an MEd TESL.

Maybe someone with experience in one of the programs will come along with more helpful information about it. Smile

keep in mind that if you choose to do it in Ontario, you will have to do a one-year TESL / TESOL certificate at a university (and possibly at a college- there seems to be some disagreement as to whether you can get into the masters with an Ontario college one-year certificate) before you can apply (but the same schools that have the certificates offer the masters. It's not like in Australia where a certificate is only a single term and then if you continue on the certificate credits will be taken for the same number at that university. In Ontario, the one year certificate is the PREREQUISITE to even apply. You normally get NO credit for having done it, but you **may** be able to get a couple of credits off). But if you go to any other province, then you won't have to do this.

[Yes, this basically means you should probably just scratch universities in Ontario off of your potential list of places to go, unless you actually plan on immigrating to Canada AND living in Ontario AND teaching ESL in Ontario, ***OR*** just happen to want to spend a year longer (and a lot more money) to get the same thing {probably more if you don't have experience teaching ESL or EFL already- you need to do: 1. TESL certificate 2. Get at least a couple of years of experience teaching 3. the Masters degree}]
