Haven't really seen a suitable candidate yet, certainly would be a case of least worst if I were voting. |

If I were a Mexican citizen, I'd be more inclined to vote for the TORTILLA party, if one existed . |

The only person who has ever interested me was the PSD candidate from 2006. Was her name Mechado or something like that? What a brilliant person? |

Patricia Mercado.
In what way do you consider her brilliant? Just checking some of her proposals in Wikipedia, I have my doubts. |

This is what I got off Wikipedia, Phil K. But aside from my agreement on all PSD`s programs as enunciated in the above, I thought her debating skills to be the most polished. A lot of people did, considering she vastly outpolled her party in the national elections. |

Hmmm. While I always admire a good debater or orator in politics, most of the issues mentioned (many of which I disagree with, BTW) place her in the "niche" category, i.e. standing up for the controversial issues which in themselves are not relevant to Mexico's considerable problems. I'd like to see her solutions to these problems, although these don't seem to reported, at least in my brief research. |

The idea of the legalization of drugs is so revelant to Mexico's considerable problems that even the PAN has considered it.
It's a very radical approach to the cartel problem, but other approaches have not even made a dent in that problem. Therefore I think its time to take that idea seriously. |

But in the English Wikipedia, I read that she was campaigning for legalization of marijuana. How is that going to solve the problem? |

I have no stats to back me up, but I believe that a large percentage of illegal drugs going from Mexico to the US is marijuana. |

Well, I don't know either, but I thought it'd be the harder stuff. In any case, I don't think this kind of legislation is wise - a bit like some D.F. delegations legitimizing franeleros, instead of jailing them for extorsion, blocking the public highway, etc.
The answer has to be in dealing with offenders, not softening the law. |

And so Phil K, other than that it is against the law, what is so particularly bad about marijuana usage? And don`t give me the crap about it leading onto harder drugs as so does alcohol, and besides a vast majority don`t go on to cocaine or heroin. And don`t give me the crap that it in itself is a dangerous drug because it is actually considerably less dangerous than alcohol. |
