ESL Insider has an ad for teaching in Uruguay.
I don't know if it's a scam or not, but it does have a bait-and-switch. On Daveseslcafe, it advertised positions with online training. Once you contact them, you get a request to apply (form, standard info) and the two prices (for people with and those without another teaching EFL certificate) for the training that seem to be required to be paid in advance. Presumably, you will also (simultaneously?) be placed in a teaching job for 6 or 12 months that pays about $1,000 plus a housing allowance of about #100 (at current exchange rate) At that point, I didn't go any further, so I don't know any more than that.
I have not been able to find any reviews of the program, which apparently has been around for some years. |

EFL Insider is obviously a TEFL course provider; the ad you describe is for a TEFL training course with some sort of job placement as opposed to a posting for a teaching position. Bona fide job opportunities don't require applicants to pay recruiting or placement costs. |

The ad clearly puts the emphasis on a job:
Teach English in Uruguay - includes On-line TEFL certificate, round-trip air-ticket, UY $33,000 monthly salary. Choose from 6 - 12 month program with option to continue teaching in Peru, Colombia and Argentina. Explore exciting South America!

I misunderstood since you mentioned ESL Insider and not ESL Starter in your initial post.
If that ESL Starter ad appeals to you, you'd have to determine if an online TEFL cert will meet your future needs and $1000 US/mo. is adequate. |

No, you didn't make a mistake, I did. I don't know why I wrote the wrong name -- I guess I had just looked at something from ESL Insider and the name stuck in my mind.
My apologies to You and to ESL Insider. |
