I'm relatively new to this area of 'English' and it seems to me the books are a bit of a nightmare - masses of material on one page, page after page. Vocab everywhere.
How are you meant to teach something which is basically a list of words and grammar?
Also, for the new Matura advanced exam - would you agree that the level is somewhere between what was the FCE and CAE? |

I once tried to teach a liceum student from one of those awful matura books. It's so odd how the test/textbook is at FCE-ish level students, yet all the instructions are in Polish.
Later I went to Japan where every EFL textbook is in Japanese with a smattering of Engllish phrases awkwardly thrown in. After that, a matura textbook didn't seem so strange!
If I were you, Simon, I'd just figure out whatever language point the matura book is trying to teach, and then find an FCE textbook which does it much better.
I always though matura was closer to FCE than CAE, but I haven't seen the latest version of the test.It would make sense that Matura Advanced is between FCE and CAE. |
