|
|
Hey gents (привет товарищи)
This one is aimed at anyone checking out these forums who is thinking about coming to Russia. If you're already here, you probably won't have much use for this.
It's a 24 page guide (short book?) that I wrote about how to find a job, what to ask in the interview, how to pick a school that doesn't suck, and so forth.
You can download it by here
http://www.samklemens.com/try-the-borsch
I'm not making a dime off this, so I hope it's not breaking any forum rules.
It's basically just all the stuff I wish I knew before I came to Moscow.
Cheers |

Hey man, it's just the only way that can I can automatically send the book out. Short of manually sending it out by email lol.
The list is just one email a week about what articles I posted on my blog.
You can unsubscribe whenever you want |

Cheers, mate. Not a bad summary at all. And there's even plenty of stuff to argue about over a beer! : ) |

I liked it too.
Quite intrigued as to WHERE in Moscow you are based though! |

I think you can just post a link to the book on your site. It's obvious this is all to drive traffic to your site—that being said, the guide is cool. |

Definitely a helpful introduction.
One correction though: the CELTA is backed by Cambridge not Oxford.
Also, can we assume that most employers are looking for TEFL certs that meet the minimum requirement of 120 face-to-face hours plus six hours of supervised teaching experience? Or will any $200 online cert do the trick? Thanks for the clarification! |

Glad you've found it useful! I had fun writing it.
I'm sorry if you think it's annoying to subscribe. Like I said, you can of course unsubscribe first email, and you still got a free book (guide?) out of it. Not the worst deal ever.
Besides, you might like something I write anyways.

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll correct it soon.
And you know, almost all schools will ask for a 120 hours face-to-face classes. But they may be accepting less now, because it's harder to get people to come to Russia.
The thing is, I probably wouldn't want to teach at a school that didn't require a decent certification. They are probably going to teach their teachers poorly. |

You might also point out that, for those who take a Cambridge course, Comrade Sasha collects a commission on our behalf.

Sort of what I thought. When you get around to making updates, that might be something to clarify in the in the next edition.
Thanks! |

I went through your entire blog.
I enjoyed reading about initial impressions of Kiev, quirky russian lifestyle, life gives you lemons, russian state school, anything related to your travels.
However, all the self development/health/financial/etc was not interesting nor relevant to a random user stumbling on your blog. There are plenty of Tim Ferris/Zen Habits/Internet Marketing/Health blogs from established authors that I go to.
I would like more stuff about the country/culture/food/drinks/teaching - and that can help your blog grow rather than random information inspired from somewhere else. That's where your blog can standout, have a impact, and grow. At the very least, categorize your posts into self-development/travels.
Just my 2c. All the best. |

Excellent advice! Best to focus on a well-defined niche, preferably one that hasn't been filled by others, rather than just posting a little of this and a little of that. |
