The White House is in lockdown after reports of gunshots on Capitol Hill, security sources say.
Gunshots have been heard at the US Capitol Visitors Centre, according to US Senate sources.
Workers in the Capitol were told to "shelter in place" and those outside were urged to take cover.
Some reports suggested that the gunman had been captured and one police officer had been wounded.
A Capitol Police spokeswoman had no immediate comment but said the office would be issuing a statement soon.
The US Congress and White House are in lockdown after the reports.
The Capitol Visitors Center is where tourists gather to take tours.

And Trump is saying that Britain and Europe is not 'safe places'!

I suggest that Trump take his 5mm cowboy revolver with him when is going to visit Britain or Europe. |

Dear sheikh,
"The end of civilization . . . ."
We here in the US are worried. We've never been civilized.

Not yet, sheikh.
The end of civilisation will not happen until the return of Jesus (PBUH). |

An extraordinary remark. You can´t be serious. OK, a man was executed in Texas last week and there is some possibilty that Trump will be the next resident of the White House but look at the good things. |

Indeed, the 2nd amendment is redundant and should be abolished.
The 2nd amendment gives a false sense of security to the citizens of the USA. |

Dear gregory999,
Did you read the article or was the grammar lesson too difficult?
The 2nd amendment doesn't need to be abolished; it needs to be understood correctly.

John |

Dear Johnslat
Indeed, you're right. A lesson in US history for a humble Brit.

Well Jonny,my opinion is to abolish the 2nd amendment because the majority of the Americans do not understand it, and resist to quote the entire clause! |

The inaccuracies of anti-gun bigotry are tiresome.
1. The majority (70%) of murders in the US occur in a short list of cities.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/12/highest-murder-rate-us-cities-2013_n_6145404.html
2. A small % of the population (fragments of the Black and Hispanics populations) commit the majority of the murders.
http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/htus8008.pdf
To sum up, most of the murders occur in a few areas and largely among the Non-Asian Minorities. America doesn't not have a gun problem, it has a demographic problem.
Frankly, given the increasingly Third World nature of parts of the country, the murder rates are quite low. |
