To add my two cents worth about air quality in Jubail: I lived there several years and while there are many plants there (only one is actually a refinery, I think) and they do produce smoke when something goes wrong (and get fined by the Royal Commission for doing so), I don't think the air quality was especially bad. I ran regularly in Jubail and never had any respiratory problems. It was my impression that dust caused more health problems than chemical compounds in the air, even though it's not overly dusty there, either. I was always more concerned that one of my students (who failed to learn his type 2 verbs, probably) would turn a switch the wrong way and blow us all to kingdom come. |
