They will be asking for 'fees' somewhere, somehow.

Look pal, if this job is legit - I'll dance naked in the middle of town and I will film it and put it up on here.

Come back when you are working in Madrid, earning 700 Euros a week for 12 hours work. Laughing

mecd.es (for Espana) - I know to avoid the dreaded .tk ending.

It would seem as though they would at least answer some questions. Most Spanish speakers and readers can answer questions in decent English - but many scammers can't.

On the contract, there is one use of the word "kindly". Nigerian and south Asian scammers use this a lot, as well as "dears". I don't think most Spanish would use anything but "please".

Westy, could the e-mail address have been [email protected]? Rather than somethingsomething @mecd.es?

On a new thread another poster is reporting the e-mail address as [email protected]--a dead give-away.

It's a scam one way or another or in any case not a legit offer. Maybe they're not even after your money directly. Heard of identity theft? Don't scan and send any personal documents now...

In any case if you have a European passport, you can come to Spain at any time and work legally.

You know, I went back to the emails and they were ending in the .es, but when I put the cursor on that address, it came up as [email protected] with a 571 882 9506 number. Definitely a scam! I'm not going any further with this. This number is in northern Virginia near DC. This area code is known for scams.

Wow! I've been following this thread with great interest over the past day or two. Glad you were finally able to confirm it was a scam before getting into things any further.

You've lived in Spain and therefore presumably know how many native speakers are there already and how much local salaries are and you're *still* asking if this is legit?! Really? Are you pulling our leg?

If someone offered me $1500 per week to come from abroad to teach everyday classes of Spanish (i.e. not at Universities) in Texas or California, I wouldn't need to ask if it was legit, it would be blatantly obvious that such a salary would be wildly unrealistic and would scream scam.

Research isn't necessary, common sense would tell you straight away that it's absolute boll-ocks. But you go ahead and waste your time (and money.)

"Note that 700E a week is for only few teachers Language instructors) and your tax is 15%"

"Please this is not a scam, you will see for yourself upon arrival."

This is the latest replies from Mr. "Argi Danel"

My latest guess on how the money will be requested: They want you to arrange your flight via their agents, through whom payment should be made.

Good guess. The scam ad also lists visa assistance as one of the benefits, and the Ministry is very emphatic about NOT providing assistance--"Contact your consulate for all visa questions." So either flights, or visas, or both. Or, who knows, maybe Grimace is right, and they are just after identity info.

So I joined this forum just to chime in on this. I also applied to this program after seeing it on eslcafe and after a few exchanges, got that exact "contract letter" email from Argi Danel.

I have to thank Pashatodd for even inquiring about it because I also thought it was completely legit, given that the program he is trying to represent is a legitimate program. After reading the thread, I checked the Spanish Ministry website again and found the original FAQs. I also found the contact info for the Spanish consulate I was supposed to write to about the program.

I wrote this:

Hello Ms. Hernandez,

I am writing in regards to The North American Language and Culture Assistants Program. I have been communicating with the following person:

Consejerías de
Educación
Mr Argi Danel
Paseo del Prado, 28, 1ª planta, 28014 Madrid
Skype: mecd.gob
Teléfono: +34902848854 / 902 848-853
Teléfono/Fax +34 901 848-003
Teléfono: +12028880191 / 202 888-0159
Los mensajes de texto: +1 571 882-9506
Sitio web: http://www.mecd.gob.es or http://www.mecd.es

And I have received a contract letter from him. I stumbled upon an online forum discussing this program, and there were warnings on its legitimacy. Now I doubt that this person represents MECD.

If you could please confirm to me my suspicion, I would be very grateful.

She wrote back:

That person does not belong to our staff. I'm afraid it's some kind of fraud. Please note that the application has to be submitted via Profex. Follow the directions from our website: http://www.mecd.gob.es/eeuu/convocatorias-programas/convocatorias-eeuu/auxiliares-conversacion-eeuu.html.
