Teaching hour or 'contact hour, in my exp is 45 or 50 mins and a 'class' is 2x45 min 'periods' put together, involving same students.
The break of 15 mins in the middle of the class is for bathroom stops and sometimes the class monitor uses that time to organise the students for some purpose. I vamoose during that break and go visit other foreign teachers in adjoining classrooms.
The break at the end of the class is pack up, one on ones with students who have issues and of course moving between classrooms, often to different buildings.
The quoted hours in contracts are teaching hours. So if you get the standard SAFEA contract it will say Max 20 hours. These are 45/50 min hours, not clock hours.
PM me your email address and I'll send you a typical weekly timetable from a previous job.

N S,
You definitely get a +1 for starting this thread and sticking around to keep it going.
This may be one of the very best (as in highly useful) threads ever to surface on the China (Job-related Posts Only) board. Nice one.

That timetable example I mentioned earlier is still available if anyone wants
it. I'll need an email address by PM.
Teaching hours v contract hours is difficult when considering your first job. |
