Just returned from a holiday in Laos...the capitol Vientienne is packed with EFL teachers looking for work..mostly backpackers from Thailand...thus finding paid teaching work is next to impossible....however I did notice volunteer teaching work is still possible especially in Luang Prabang. Shocked

Yes I noticed the same. Why the great exodus from Thailand? Laos is at least 40% more expensive than Thailand because of the import tax, can't imagine getting 40% more than Thailand. I was getting 15$ an hour and was told that was good...

Maybe the new laws in Thailand are making it difficult for Backpackers to find work, so off to Laos they go.

Why are you competing for the same jobs as those loathsome, heinous, apocalyptic and appalling backpackers whose presence in Laos will surely mean the end of life as we know it? Shocked

International schools in Laos offer decent money...and pay around $1,500 - $2,000 per month...I was just offered a job at one such renowned school in the capital Vientienne....even thought they told me I had to pay my own accomodation. Shocked :shock
