| Hi! I'm wondering if Peng's Foreign Language Training School is a reputable company? They ask for a $220 deposit for the training first, and of course I don't want to lose that money! Your help will be greatly appreciated! |

do you get a lovely tefl certificate in a frame? might be worth it,
some pay more for online certificates.
or is the 'training' gonna be instruction in their 'methods?' |

I thought a job was supposed to pay you?
I would not consider a job that i had to pay for. Think about it, where is all the risk ? Given the business practices of many language schools, in my short but eventful time here, they are probably seeing how 'mentally vacant' the pool of applicants are. |

agree with choudoufu - it depends on the nature of the training really. Im not familiar with the employer at all, but there are people in China who offer training certificates of a sort. Not comparable with CELTA etc, but certainly as worthwhile as something online perhaps.
Is the training part of an overall program? Is there a job at the end of it? Does the job depend on the training? What types of job and salary range?
All of that needs answering really. Do you have a link to the school and program? |

Are you truly serious?
What sort of "training" do you think this might be?
If you want to become a real English teacher, first of all go to university and study a related degree, follow that up with a Trinity or a CELTA certificate, then move on to your related MA.
That's what I did.
Anything else is totally bogus, and you will eventually crash and burn in the end, as more and more countries tighten up their regulations about who can teach. |

Did you get your "teaching qualifications" with Peng, by any chance?
No-one should be teaching English anywhere, including China, without proper qualifications, and a basic grasp of the English language.
These are things that seem to be sadly lacking, if the China boards are anything to go by.
I'm thinking of opening an on-line English school specifically aimed at the FT community in China, perhaps you could sign up for some lessons.
How's your drinking coming along, by the way? |
