I'm seeking feedback on a specific program from those of you who have been in ESL/EFL for some time, and especially from those who understand the hiring end of the process.
My goal is to get an ESL-related masters that will prove versatile, as I can foresee one of three possible scenarios coming to pass for me. My favorite scenario is that I would become eligible to teach ESL at a college level and would do so in the U.S. for a time before moving to Mexico to live and work in a few years. My second favorite is that I would remain in the U.S. teaching college level ESL. The third possibility is that I would return to the K.12 world (I have a CLAD multiple subject credential in California) and use the masters to teach ESL at some level in a public K.12 setting.
Ideally, the masters would allow me entrance into any of the above job scenarios. I've been eying a specific online program that might or might not fit the bill, and I'm hoping some of you have the time and inclination to look it over and give me your opinions on its strong and/or weak points.
The degree is MA English Language Learning/English as a Second Language (PreK-12), and the general description is found here: http://www.wgu.edu/education/master_education_english_language_learning
What I see as the virtues of this program are: it's nationally and regionally accredited, the school has has a good reputation, the program is flexible and can be done while working, and the price is right!

While the degree name implies it's geared to K.12 educators, the description also says that it's for community college teachers who work in ELL or ESL settings.
I'm currently a part-time ESL teacher for the non-credit side of a community college in California, and I would like to continue to work primarily with adults in the future.
Thanks ahead of time to those who contribute to the thread. |
