Steps are being taken towards eventual lifting of the visa requirement imposed in 2009 for Mexicans visiting Canada.

Critics say, however, that the measures being taken will also make it less likely for valid asylum-seekers from Mexico to be accepted as refugees.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out...our embassy here used to be such a quiet little place but now looks more like the US embassy with long lines and mountains of paper and people.

Good move! My wife is off to Canada next week, and had to go through all that nonsense. Also, as a travel agent, she finds the visa requirement has badly affected business for a once-prime destination for Mexicans.
