I'm in the process of writing down my ideas for teaching different levels of English at a company. The main thing the company wants to know is how I will conduct classes in order to maximize learning. To me it sounds like a huge topic and I don't know exactly what the company expects, but I will write down what I think is important in teaching adults.
Does anyone have any comments on how to maximize learning or how you would tell someone in an interview how you would do this? I've also tried to find information on the Internet on this, but haven't been successful, so if anyone has any links, esp. to journal articles, that would be great. |

Helps to know what sort of "learning" the company expects of its employees:
reading
writing
speaking (how? in what situations?)
listening
presenting
You maximize the teaching. You make the opportunity for students to maximize their learning. Best way is to make the lessons as student-focused as possible. Part of that would be how you go about it. Task-centered work? Again, that depends on the above list. |

As Glenski states you would need to provide more information. In an interview situation, you could start by stating that much depends on which skills, length of program, general level of students and what the company expectations are regarding the learning outcomes, you could create sample senarios for the student levels and what you might incorporate-utilize for each skill to maximize student learning.
Generally speaking maximizing student learning could encompase various teaching methodologies; teacher to student/ student to student pair work, group work...alternatives besides just a textbook & paper or only lecture based; rather more student centered along with various technology based learning- online software programs / websites, videos ,film, music pictures, games? group work/ pair work, (self) assessment, quizzes. All of these could be possible ways to help maximize learning.
maybe have a look at these links...might help you brain storm a bit?

Just out of curiosity - where are you teaching and what kind of company? What kind of class-size will you be working with? |

Thanks for the input. It sounds like I am off to a good start with what I have been planning for possible teaching. I will definitely take a look at the links.
I do always try to make my lessons student-centered and give them as much speaking practice as possible and tailor the lessons to what the students want and also need.
The company hasn't given any direct specifications. They deal with polyester fibres. It almost sounds like I'd be doing the whole English program, if hired. I'll know more later this week, as I will definitely have questions for the person who will interview me. |
