This has caught out a number of young Omani's so please pass on.
A call is supposedly received from the NAWRAS Call Centre (mobile numbers are used including 95874157). The receiver is informed that they have won 10 000 rials. There is a swich to the 'manager'.
They are asked to check their SIM number (89968031 - this is the same on most phones) and are given a code 55500143927 NAWRAS OMAN for Bank Muscat. They are told to meet either Abdulhamed Al Balushi or Miss Aisha who will be representing NAWRAS.
They are given a list of 'proof' they must bring to the Bank - the SIM card, Civil ID, the code and NAWRAS prepaid cards of total value between 90 and 150 rials. The prepaid cards must be purchased as soon as possible so that the 'winner' can receive the cheque number. The numbers on the pre-paid cards (ie the recharge code) should be confirmed to the 'Call Centre to receive three days of totally free local and international calls.
The youngsters were caught up in the excitement, borrowed money, followed the instructions and you can guess the rest. |
