Has anyone ever had dealings with this placement agency?

http://www.globalculturetaiwan.com

I hate it when this happens.
But, at first I thought I was dealing with the company itself with no middle man.
Only recently I found it was this agency.

Last time I contacted them through e-mail they asked,
'So, when are you getting here?'
I know some people do it, but I don't go anywhere without an offer first.
I haven't even had a skype interview yet.

If anyone has any first hand experience with this company or knows someone who has used them, please let me know.

They are another parasitic agency. They don't have a business license, they don't pay tax, and they won't be any help when the job they've set you up with turns out to be a load of shite. Stay away from agents in general.

That was a company I had just applied with as well. I too, want a job prior to going to another country. I have done it with three other countries. Is this the norm for Taiwan?

You have to wonder about a company that cannot find a teacher already in Taiwan.

If you were a business owner, would you hire someone over Skype or the telephone?

As I said, I have with three other countries and turned down two countries. Guess business owners in other countries don't always share your view when they want a native speaker.

The better jobs in China and South Korea don't tend to hire over the internet. Yes, there are jobs because they cannot fill them with people already in the country.

I can't offer advise on what is normal more times than not in Taiwan.
But, I have heard from a fair amount of others that its close to impossible to find teaching work in Taiwan if you do not have teaching credentials.
At first I felt some schools there may be interested in me because of my teaching experience.
But, this agency did give some basic warning signs so I backed off.
No other schools have contacted me from Taiwan ever.

The demand can be filled with foreigners already in Taiwan.

People with teaching credentials can get jobs easily because the pay is only $2,000 a month. Certified teachers can earn a lot more than that elsewhere.

I've been getting the same questions from them too... "When do you plan to arrive Taiwan at the earliest?" and "Could you please let me know when you will plan to be in Taiwan?" ...so I was wondering the same. I'm glad I found this post, thanks for the info!
