Okay I am sure that this time I asking for it, so here it goes:

Does anyone here have experience sending remittance to their country of origin?

Lately in the States you can get a bank account that will allow you to complete person to person transactions, of course I am not sure that I will be that lucky once I head to Japan. I will be residing in Western Japan in an area is considered somewhat the sticks (ADR).

Does anyone have any tips to send money and minimize fees? Please let me know!

Thank you!

GoLloyds, though it's changing names at the moment, is the easiest.

GoLloyds is easy but expensive. I use XE.com It is a hassle to get set up with them but once you do, it's smooth sailing. It costs me 850yen to send money home. I don't pay any intermediary fees and my destination bank doesn't charge me anything either.

XE's rates are normally a little better than GoLloyds and you don't have to pay 2000 yen for every transaction like you do with them. But the money gets to the destination bank account about 24-48 hours later than GoLloyds.

Do a search about this topic on the forum. I've posted a lot regarding this. Most of the information from those old threads is still valid.

"Didn't read the FAQ stickies, did you?"

(Ooooooooh Burn!)

Unfortunately I am limited to viewing what my "smart" (dumb) phone allows me to see and I did not see this! Thank you for the link, much appreciated.

And thank you to everyone else who wrote in, I will investigate both companies.
