Hi everyone,
I understand that the best time of the year to get hired is at the end of summer/beginning of fall, and the second best is around the Chinese New Year.
I want to take a CELTA course before I go, and I was hoping to take one in Thailand in December, and then go to Kaohsiung to look for a job. Unfortunately, there are no courses in December, so the next course runs from January 6-31. I would come to Kaohsiung right afterward.
Would it be too late at that point? The Chinese New Year in 2014 is on January 31.
I'd appreciate any help/advice!
Thanks. |

Many schools will do some hiring the week after CNY, but you might be at a bit of a disadvantage since you'll have to try to get your bearings and sort out the best areas to look for work pretty quickly. I'm thinking central Kaohsiung might be tough. There's a good chance you'll have to go a little further afield. Good luck! |

Thanks...do you think it would be possible to apply for jobs online WHILE I'm taking my CELTA course? Would Taiwanese schools accept that? |

Taiwanese schools don't really care that much about TEFL certificates. I'm sure if there were two candidates with the same experience and one had a certificate and the other didn't, the certificate might tip the scales in that persons favour, but that's about it. It's certainly not a prerequisite.
You can try applying from outside Taiwan, but these days that's tough. I think your best bet is to show up with a stack of resumes and hit the streets. |
