Hello Everyone,
Does signing a contrat with a Saudi University mean that they have committed to reserving a position for you?
I've heard that some employers in Saudi overhire for positions.
Thanks for your help. |

If it is direct hire then it is unlikely that they will change their mind. If you go through a contractor - anything can happen.

Ditto what Scot47 said. I'd also say yes and no since employment is contingent upon the prospective employee completing and submitting acceptable med exam/lab test results, a clean criminal background check report, authenticated academic creds, verification of previous employment, and whatever else is required for visa and employment purposes. Some applicants don't get that far because they 1) get cold feet about heading to ultra-conservative KSA; or 2) take some other position in the Kingdom or in another country; or 3) for some reason, are unable to complete the employment visa process and/or provide employer-required documents. |

If you have a direct-hire offer from a large Saudi university or something, they probably have good intensions. Forget getting the $1000 or so you spent on the medical reimbursed.
Actually, there is now a subcontractor for Saudi that claims to pay all deployment costs up front, including the physical. I don't know what the pay is or how they treat you once you get there, but if they are willing to pay the physical up front, I like them already. However, they are based in London, and they may not be aware that American physicals are way, way more extensive and expensive than British.
Do you know of any direct-hire employers willing to do that? |

The contract that has any sway at all is sent to you by Saudi Immigration when you get your employment visa back, and is signed when in KSA. So the answer to your question is maybe. |
