Hi! I am planning to go back to China this summer (approximately three weeks in August); I would like to refresh my teaching styles, and learn a bit of Chinese. Any advice on schools/universities/reliable centres organizing short, intensive courses ? Will it be ok to teach on a F visa for just three weeks?
Any suggestion/info would be appreciated!
thank you

The fact you are asking the question means YOU KNOW it is not allowed (illegal) and yet you still ask. It is illegal to teach or receive any payment for teaching while entering the country with an F visa. That simple. |

that's actually a very good question! you see, nobody here really knows
the answer to that. you would think a study visa would be required to
study, but if under six months, an f-visa is used. plenty of debate, and
plenty of anecdotes. most 'think' a work visa is required, even for one
day of volunteering, but few can point to the published laws.
you're not going to get a z-visa for three weeks, so you need to find some
way to make it legal. you're coming for a short training session.....you're
not getting paid. in that case, i would think it's fine for a school to
sponsor you with an f-visa. |

We all gotta eat. Payment can come in the form of savings. There is nothing illegal about teaching and then having a meal afterwards. The money you would have spent is still in your bank account.
You can do this with clothes, computer repair jobs, shoes, grocery shopping, and if you teach one student a lot maybe more expensive things.
Don't tell me we aren't allowed to "visit friends" here in this fine country. |

Here's an anecdote: a local middle school brings English teachers over on an F visa for one semester. Many foreigners only want to spend one semester here. The school gets good English teachers, generally young college graduates who give a darn about their job and want to see China. The school avoids the drunks and skirt-chasers. Win-win as they say. It's fine, worry not. |

As far as I've noticed, there are NO problems with working on an F visa in China. I don't know ANYONE who's been checked on and kicked our of the country or fined. |

I agree totally with Asiateacher. I've been here 5 years and have never heard any credible reports of anyone having trouble teaching on an F visa, and have done it myself for much of the 5 years. |

I saw a stat that there are only 6000 Foreign Expert certificated teachers in PRC.
Clearly the actual number teaching is more than that figure.
Unless there are other options, those who are not recognised F/Experts must be on tourist visas.
