Hi,

Has anyone heard of this school? I would also be interested in hearing about what living in the city is like (people , transport, things to do, costs etc.)

Any info would be great - Thanks!

Hi there,

I live in Lecce, which is a smaller city to the South of Bari. I don't know about the school but can give you a bit of info about the city.

Bari is the second largest city in the South of Italy (Naples being the biggest). Like most italian cities it is a bit scruffy on the outskirts with roads, industry, housing developments etc but the central city itself is a nice place to be. There is a port which is the main ferry terminal to Greece and then the city is really composed of an old part and newer, more modern shopping areas. Like a much smaller Naples really.

The city used to have problems with crime linked to drugs, smuggling and so on but that is very much in the past. Today you will find it to be a typical European city and I doubt very much that you will come across any crime or feel anything other than 100% safe. I think you will find the people very friendly and there will always be lots to do in terms of nightlife, culture and so on. Southern Italy doesn't really have a 'drinking culture' though, social aspects are much more based around eating, seeing friends etc rather than getting drunk. Close to Bari there is some wonderful coastline so if swimming/surfing/kitesurfing or just hanging out on the beach is your thing than it is ideal. Inland there is also some wonderful countryside.

An ex-colleague worked for just a few days in Bari but gave up as it seemed like a scam - they basically just kept asking him to do lessons 'as part of his interview' i.e. work for nothing. I'm afraid i can't recall the name of the school though. Probably like all TEFL jobs you need to check it out carefully.

I hope that helps a little even if not a lot!
