I am wondering how long it takes a US citizen to get a work permit in Libya.
There are a lot of 'ifs'

If I get the job, return to the US, how long will it take.
Is there a visa service?
How expensive is teh medical check?
(ahhh---my cursor is jumping alll over the place) Sad

You ask a lot of questions...put them all on 1 post to be clear.

The oil company jobs usually have an agent/rep/partner company in the UK so the visa stuff is simple. Do your medical which is basically HIV, Hep ABC and a chest x-ray...can be done in a week....send off docs with visa application.......takes not more than a month and can be done faster....once here...convert business visa to 1 year residency...renewed every year after medical then you require an exit-re-entry visa every time you go on leave within that year.

Can't believe you're even considering that shabby offer...what's the salary again? I can't be bothered to look it up. Housing? and where? Once here it isn't easy to 'get a better job'....moving is problematic as your current employer can cancel your visa and you have to leave. Rotations are good...living here full-time is gonna make a man of you.

If you get an offer, request more money.

What would be a decent min. offer for an experienced ESLer who is new to oil field work?

New hire just a shade over 3000 GBP a month, free housing, food and medical coverage and 3 weeks off every six with flights paid for.

The smart specialist website is not really the most transparent or obvious thing to use. I have no expectations, and just wanted to see what was possible, but I can't really see where the jobs are listed. I guess I just upload the resume and see what happens.

Hi Voyeur,
I also had a little bit of trouble with the website at first. If you click on "candidate registration" page to download your CV, when that page comes up there is a link to "job vacancies" directly to the left of where it says candidate registration. (Not the job vacancies link at the top of the page which took me nowhere.) There you can see a list of open positions. Unfortunately, I didn't find any for TEFL trainers. Hope that explanantion was clear.
