Hello. I'm a special education teacher in PA. I've been teaching for 6 years and am 44. I want to work in Paris; I speak French. What are my options? Thanks! |

If you are a holder of 'only' a US passport, you've got basically no options, other than marrying a French citizen. Or getting a passport from an EU country, usually done via ancestry.
Sorry about the bad news, but the laws mandate that EU member citizens must be given first shot at any job openings going in the Education field, and there are likely to be numerous qualified special Ed teachers with EU passports in line ahead of you. Teaching English language, ditto - there are scads of well-qualified EU teachers on the job market. |

I'll agree with Spiral. You might have a shot at the American school there though: http://www.asparis.org/page.cfm?p=614
I'm sure the competition is stiff though. Go to recruitment fairs in America and find the person who is representing American schools in France. Of course this would most likely not be for teaching EFL, but the subject you specialize in. |

Special Ed is special. It's rarely taught in any language other than the students' L1, I hear. Perhaps I'm mistaken - and the OP states that he does speak French. However, along with sparks, I think the local competition for such jobs would be quite high. |

Although it is difficult, there are opportunities for people without EU passports. One thing you could look at is basing yourself in France, but working for a school that has on-line classes. If your French is of a high level and you have certification, you could also look at being a freelance translator. |
