I was going through the application form for the online English school Tutor ABC today. Everything was ok until I found out students rate every class you teach and if you get a rating below 6 for a class you receive only half pay for that class. I was just wondering if anyone would recommend this school?

I haven't worked for this company, Tutor ABC, which is on-line teaching, mainly for Asian students, but I have heard mixed reviews.

The teaching can be at any time, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, depending on where you (the teacher) are based. You are committed to 15 sessions per week of at least 45 minutes and the pay is usually $8 or $8.50 per session.

You may have up to 6 people per session, and you can't see the students ! I would find this totally unsettling. You talk into a microphone with a webcam, so the students can see you. After each session, the students evaluate you, and if you receive consistently high evaluations, you may get a bonus. The problem is, you don't know the evaluations !
Whilst they pay on time via PayPal, I haven't heard of anybody getting a bonus.

Perhaps somebody actually working for Tutor ABC might like to chime in.

$8 for minimum 45 minutes?

Minimum wage here is $10.15 sooo.... oh well, at least there is no commute involved.

I don't think anyone knows for sure. Their application process requires you send them a demo video and they seem to be quite demanding.

Note to self, the more happy, smiling people that appear on a website the more corrupt the company is.

I haved worked for them. They are ok if you live in a location where there are no other work opportunites.

I usually made around $12 for 45 minutes, which included bonuses. They do tax you 10%.

They always pay on-time and always have work.

It can be quite complicated and stressful dealing with all the technology. Sometimes you can have five students and there can be problems with bandwidth etc.
