|
|
Hello!
I am planning to take CELTA in the near future.
I hold BSc in Finance and have experience in international auditing.
Being muslim, we want to live and work in the Middle East (especially in Saudi Arabia)
About me:
Marital status: Married (with 2 kids)
Ethnicity: Central Asian
Religion: Muslim
Need your advices and suggestions!
And my questions are:
1. How to find job after finishing CELTA course w/o teaching experience in the Middle East?
2. How difficult is to find a job with CELTA for married woman in the Middle East (with no prior teaching experience)?
Thank you!

You should just stick to this thread and delete your other 5 posts. Cutting and pasting the same message into multiple threads in the same forum is fairly useless and will just drive everyone bonkers. |

I don't know about KSA but it is unlikely you would get work with a livable wage and sponsorship in the rest of the GCC with such credentials and lack of experience.
If you do a quick search, the better employers require (and get) related Master's degree holders and several years post grad related experience.
You might be better off with your Finance degree looking for a job in industry but whether you would be able to sponsor a family might be iffy if you are the employed spouse (being female). |

That' a pitty.
But how to find a job after CELTA w/o experience in general (not only in the Middle East)? |

It's not that easy, and you might very likely have the most luck in your home country.
You need to consider:
What countries can you get a legal work permit in, considering your country of origin? Very few schools worldwide would sponsor a visa for a non-native English speaker with only a CELTA, no other related qualifications, and no experience, so you probably need to focus on countries that allow workers from your home country in general.
Most likely you can rule out Anglophone countries; far too much competition. You can rule out countries where you must have a related university degree to get a work visa (becoming more common in Asian countries, I believe). You can rule out countries where the job market is very competitive (Central/Western Europe). |

You didn't mention what type of work your husband expects to get---if it's teaching or what.

But ditto Spiral's comments. Your nationality + non-TEFL related BA + lack of experience are strikes against you. So, to get "experience in general," complete a CELTA and look for teaching jobs in your home country or region. Build your teaching experience there, at least several years' worth and preferably at the university or adult level. However, even that won't guarantee you a job in this region---you'd still be competing against native speakers with relevant MAs and experience (requirements are getting tighter). To apply for positions here would be fruitless on your part unless you plan on returning to university for a TEFL-related master's degree as well. Anyway, that's the reality.
I suggest you check out some of the half dozen or so Saudi expat forums (do an Internet search on saudi expat forum) and post your questions there. Those forums are read by expats representing a variety of nationalities and work situations. If anything, they'd provide an idea of what job opportunities, if any, you and/or your husband might qualify for. |
