My understanding is the privates pay $6 to $10 U.S and hour. Sounds like schools average around $3 an hour. Doesn't sound like a living wage,ie. you need to supplement with your own money.

Anybody out the have any thoughts on this?

I work for a business language institute and earn $15 pesos (abot $5 us) and hour. I believe that it the standard wage. Private classes are about $15 - $20 an hour. I work about 20 hours a week (not counting prep. and meeting time) and get along fine. I'm pretty sure there are business classes year round, but yeah, classes will probably thin out during the summer (especially Feb.) while people go on vacation.

Another employment option is to work for a call center. Many US companies are setting up phone centers here because of the devaluation and I think (though I am not sure) that they will hire native speakers and maybe even provide help with getting a work permit.

Hello there, Very Happy
This is Marcela from Santa Fe, in Argentina.
I am a teacher, and let me tell you that in this province we are getting paid about 8 pesos a teaching hour of 40 mins in public schools, maybe you can get a bit more in private schools. I think thatīs also the amount per hour you can be paid in private institutes of english.
Of course, you can have private students at home, and be paid 100 pesos per syllabus (as we call it here), for those students who have to sit for exams in December or February. Or you can arrange an 8/10 pesos per hour class, this depends on the city or town you are in.
Though all this may sound really incredible to believe that teachers can live with this money, let me tell you I live on this, I have 21 teaching hours a week which is not a lot, some teachers have the maximum which in my province is 40 hours a week, and we are 5 in my family, including a baby girl who is only 1 year old.
If you have any other doubt, donīt hesitate to contact me! Very Happy
I wish you the best and welcome!
