I received an offer from a school in Indonesia. I said no ultimately. I was tempted because the outgoing teacher gave it a good thumbs up, and the manager who offered me the job seemed very reasonable and on the ball. But first of all they wanted a 2 year contract! On top of that, no flight money was included in the package, and only shared housing offered. No moving or "resettlement allowance" which I have seen in other packages. (salary seemed average from what I have seen)
These negatives added up from my point of view. Par for the course in Indonesia? If so, how terribly uncompetitive! |

It depends on the school and your qualifications as to how competitive it is.
2 year contracts are par for the course if it's an international school. If you are a home qualified teacher not only CELTA qualified or equivalent it does sound pretty crap. Though if you are a ESL teacher it could be better than some as some ESL schools offer no housing at all.
The point about the no flights it's actually illegal for the school not to provide a flight home to your home country at the end of your contract. |
