Hey, I'm new to the Vietnam forum but I'm planning on going to Phu Quac after my term ends in China for my holidays. Is there a way to just skip over to Thailand from there? Cheers!

I think there was for a while, but it has been discontinued. Please share whatever you find out.

Rhino. I'm heading to Vietnam from China in the summer as well.
How are you getting there? I'm trying to figure out if it will be better to go by land or air.

There apparently is a train service that goes from Hanoi to Kunming. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks. That would be an option for me.
How easy is to get from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City?

I was told this train is no longer in service but I could be wrong. I'm also going to Vietnam from China and I'm planning to leave by air from Shanghai although I think it will be expensive leaving from here.

It's easy to get from hanoi to ho chi minh. You can get a 1 way air ticket with vietnam airlines for about $115 or take a train or bus to the south, stopping along the way if you like. The whole train ride without getting off is about 35 hours though I think, but I've never taken it straight through.

I am flying with my wife and her sister from Guangzhou. I'm not one for long train rides because I dont sleep well on the move. The airfare is'nt bad but a train would be much cheaper. I earn a fairly high salary here so time is more important than money for we'll only have three weeks. We are spending a week on Phu Quac island after we visit some of the war museums in HCMC. There are some great beach huts there(8 bucks a night) and apparently the divings not bad either. On a side note it takes about 4 working days to get a tourist visa for Vietnam here in China, and the cost is 350RMBs. Cheers!
