Hi All,

It turns out I'm going to have almost the whole month of February off this year - a combination of ferie falling where it does and the spring semester starting unusually late.

I'd like to take the opportunity to travel. Does anyone have a suggestion for places to go? I've already been to some of the nearby favorites: L'viv, Ukraine - Vilnius, Lithuania - Prague.

It would also be nice to hear some suggestions of warmer places to go which won't break the bank. February in Eastern Europe isn't exactly balmy.

Where would you go if you had 1-2 weeks and a moderate travel budget?

Thanks.

-Shake

Turkey. South/West Turkey.
Or Fuerte Ventura; also fairly cheap.

I don't know where you live, maybe close to the Polish-German border? If you go south, I recommend flying form Berlin - usually much cheaper.

ROFLMAO! Non-stop BBQ, beers and camels.....accompanied by militia trucks and RPGs, everything for the high-roller!

Too funny.

I don't know your style on trips Erik but I would suggest Athens as a bit more mild plus plentiful sights and historical atmosphere.

Bodrum and the southern Turkish coast seemed like a good recommendation as well.

As none of us are skiers, the family and I have been having warm winter breaks for a few years.

We went to Greece in winter break two years ago. Athens was almost deserted. The Plaka was great to walk round and we had the Acropolis almost to ourselves. Spent three days there then headed to an island (Kea) which was gorgeous if you like peace and quiet. There's a cheap Greek airline that operate out of Warsaw.

Last year we headed to Syracuse in Sicily. Again, beautiful and reasonably cheap although the flight was more and involved a change in Rome.

This year, we've booked up to Tel Aviv with Wizz Air out of Katowice. Excellent price for the flight. Israel isn't cheap but there are plenty of backpacker type hostels if you don't mind roughing it a bit.

Sharm El-Sheikh. Benghazi is a bit noisy.

I'd try and pick up a cheap flight to Georgia - very cheap to travel in / around, great food and apparently very very nice people. There's return flights available from Warsaw for around 300zl at the minute, too.

Not sure about the weather though...

I'll second the Georgia trip. It's quite cheap to fly there and even cheaper to stay. The beer is fantastic as is the wine and the food is flat out amazing. I can't recommend it enough.

As for Turkey (Istanbul at least), it's very expensive. If you avoided the major cities you could be all right price wise, but Turkey isn't cheap anymore. If you do wind up in Istanbul, let me know and I can give you some suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I've also heard good things about Georgia.

I'm going to look into flights to Georgia, Turkey and Greece.

I'd love to see the Libyan coast, but based on what I've heard I'd probably like it so much that I wouldn't come back to Poland...well, except for a few trips a year to blow 500zl on a meal in Sphinx. Smile

Ever notice that we don't hear anything about the great deals on coats, shoes or 5-star hotels in Tripoli or Benghazi?

Very Happy

You can choose between suicide, bulletproof or tactical. Or mix it up with their new 3-in-1 combo line.

If you're in Israel, get to Eilat it's a nice place and within a stone's throw of Dahab. It's a great place to do a PADI course and the reefs are great.

And Ecocks (yawn) the nice things in Libya ie the climate, beaches, snorkelling/diving are free. My company pays for the hotels I stay in and unless you like wearing 'jalabiyas' the clothes shopping is not for you or indeed me.

When are you going to be working legally?
