Hello.
I'm currently working in Japan at an eikaiwa. I am US citizen but my parents are from Mexico. I speak Spanish fluently. I have family in Mexico as well. I want to move from Japan to Mexico to be closer to my family as well as I miss my culture very much. I wanted to see what job opportunities would I have.
I have a bachelors degree in Linguistics. A minor in Spanish and university accredited TEFL. I have taught 6 months in America. 1 year and half in South Korea and will finish 1 year in Japan.
What other jobs can also be offered to me as a Mexicano de estados unidos? Any websites to search for jobs?
I am a female too.
Muchas gracias!!! |

Two questions.
What do you mean by other jobs? Are you looking for something other than teaching English?
Are you interested in getting dual citizenship? There have been recent changes in Mexico's immigration laws and being a citizen would open all sorts of jobs for you. If your parents are Mexicans it's just a tramite for you to get your Mexican citizenship and it will not affect your US citizenship.

(page down for the requirements for adults--that is I'm assuming you are, since you already have your BA.) |

You didn't mention where you want to live, as that will also effect the jobs you can get. But with all the recent changes to immigration law, I suspect you will be gold if you get dual citizenship and can work legally. |

Yes. I was thinking Mexico City, puerto Vallarta or Ensenada. How do I go about getting dual citizenship. I know there's a new law that allows me to get it but I don't know how to go about it.
As in other jobs meaning translation or university jobs etc. If I can get dual citizenship, maybe I can get other kinds of jobs?
Specifically maybe a search website to find jobs?
If I have Mexican citizenship is it possible to work in other Latin American countries with that citizenship?
Gracias! |

My dad is from Mexico and I've had dual nationality since 2001. I went to the registro civil where I lived (Tijuana, in my case). If you go to registro civil, they will give you a list of the steps you need to follow to get dual nationality. The most basic things you'll need are your parents' birth certificates, your own birth certificate, and an official translation of documents that are in English.
While I'm happily in the Middle East now (Oman), Tijuana and San Diego are my permanent homes. I've taught in many settings in Mexico. Besides TJ, I've also taught in Oaxaca and Puebla. So most of my students have been Mexican. (I speak Spanish fluently too.)
The following websites were helpful to me and I posted them 3 years ago. A bit out of date now, but I think they're still useful. Personally I've searched mostly computrabajo and occ.com.mx:
The following are some websites I've accumulated over time for my Mexican teaching job search. Some of the sites are noted elsewhere. I found lots of ads on occ.com and computrabajo, especially in Mexico City. Seven employers in Mexico City responded to my resume within 48 hours:

Eres de Tj? Mi familia es de Mexicali y el DF. I went to school in San Diego and frequently went to Tijuana with my friends.
Thank you so much for the links! That was exactly what I was looking for! As a female I don't think I can go teach in Saudi Arabia but I did teach some Saudia Arabian students in America. They were so fun and kind.
How do I go about applying ? Online is okay? I know sometimes they only care if you are there in person!
Good to hear some one from Baja!
Thanks!!!

Did you not click on the link I posted? That tells you what you need to get your Mexican citizenship. It says if all your papers are in order, it will take no more than 5 days. (And it's free, though you will need to pay for a copy of your Mexican birthcert (about 90 pesos) and a Mexican passport. [/quote]

You can get translation or university jobs without being a Mexican citizen. If you do become a citizen you can get any job you can get. You know probably not astronaut, but any job that will hire you. A bilingual executive assistant is a lot hire paying than most language school teachers!

No. There are no such treaties that I know of. |

I'm actually originally from L.A., and I've also lived in Northern California.
Yeah, after a year in Oman, I taught some summer courses in San Diego to students from all around the world, including Saudis. I agree they're fun and kind!
I don't drink, but thanks for the kind offer of a cheve! |

You can also apply online. Visiting schools is preferable (I've gotten many good jobs that way). Also, you can respond to classified ads. |

You "teached" English in Querétaro. I feel sorry for your students! |

Hmmmm, not an improvement. It's 'taught.'
Preposition in the phrase 'I anticipate on going back' is also problematic.
Hopefully this was done in fun; otherwise must agree with Isla Guapa. |
