Hi,

I've heard a lot about problems with theft in South America. I'm planning to come to Colombia to teach English. Would it be safe to bring a new MacBookPro laptop to Bogotá, or am I just asking for someone to steal it from me? I wouldn't be buying a new computer now, except that my old one is dying.

Also, would I benefit from having a laptop as an English teacher at a language school or University, or is it not worth it?

Thanks!

yeah you're fine. Bogota isn't that dangerous. Normal safety recommendations apply, don't flash it around on the street, don't leave it with anyone, lock it up in your hostel/hotel, etc. I wouldn't know what to do if I hadn't brought a laptop.

My brand new Macbook Pro was stolen from my locked, doorman guarded, estrato 5 apartment in Barranquilla a few years ago...Don't let all those bars on the windows and locks on the door give you a false sense of security, and make sure "locked up" is really locked up!
