Hi,
I've heard a lot about problems with theft in South America. I'm planning to come to Colombia to teach English. Would it be safe to bring a new MacBookPro laptop to Bogotá, or am I just asking for someone to steal it from me? I wouldn't be buying a new computer now, except that my old one is dying.
Also, would I benefit from having a laptop as an English teacher at a language school or University, or is it not worth it?
Thanks! |

yeah you're fine. Bogota isn't that dangerous. Normal safety recommendations apply, don't flash it around on the street, don't leave it with anyone, lock it up in your hostel/hotel, etc. I wouldn't know what to do if I hadn't brought a laptop. |

My brand new Macbook Pro was stolen from my locked, doorman guarded, estrato 5 apartment in Barranquilla a few years ago...Don't let all those bars on the windows and locks on the door give you a false sense of security, and make sure "locked up" is really locked up! |
